We are including here two illustrations of when Sinxay, Siho, Sangthong and the six brothers confront the Big Snake. The featured illustration is from Wat Photaram in Isan (approximately 100 years old) and the second illustration seen below was painted by Khamla Phanyasith for our book.
Please note how the six brothers are portrayed in each illustration. Heroes or cowards? In the Muan Sadok for Sang Sinxay, Pangkham writes,
The six brothers, who were jealous of the Buddha, were in fact devadatta.
After reading the story it’s hard to disagree.
