I recently discovered this video clip in one of our many Sinxay folders and forgot I had posted it on our YouTube channel. We haven’t posted video in a couple of years, but it was fun to see we’ve had already over one million views of all our videos and currently have 351 subscribers!
Laos hosted the SEA games in 2009 and at the opening ceremony they had someone dressed up as Sinxay shooting the arrow that lit the cauldron, the official start of the games. They refer to Sinxay as being of the “New Era,” in reference no doubt to Kaysone Phomvihane, Leader of the Pathet Lao during the Secret War who was quoted as exhorting the young people of Laos to become “Sinxay of the New Era.”
Laos actually has done very little to promote Sinxay, even though they’ve declared Sinxay to be a national cultural heritage. We’re hoping that our book will spur them on to doing more to elevate Sinxay in the eyes and minds of the Lao people and for all the foreign tourists visiting their country.
