I think we were extremely fortunate to connect with American artist, Nick Bowen, who digitally painted a number of key illustrations for Sinxay. Somehow it’s easy to say it was luck, but I always go back to Thomas Jefferson’s quote, “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” We’ve worked very hard at Sinxay and we vetted a number of illustrators before connecting with Nick. He not only painted some wonderful illustrations, like the one above, but he reworked some of the mural detail photos we had to make them appear perhaps like they looked when they were first painted. A very talented young man.
The above illustration of the triumphant procession coming into Muang Pengchan was not easy to paint. Of course we wanted to make it as accurate as possible so it took a lot of research and providing historical paintings and some old photos to Nick and going through many drafts. But our collective perseverance I think yielded a magnificent painting as the procession might have looked.
